USU football: Aggies relish statement game against Texas A&M

Logan » Normally for Utah State, a road matchup with a Big 12 school has "bodybag" game written all over it. That is, the Aggies have no chance of winning, but they will return home with a hefty amount of cash for their trouble.

Utah State coach Gary Andersen , however, doesn't see Saturday's game at Texas A&M that way.

For that matter, neither do his players. In fact, for Andersen, this game represents another chance for a program-defining win, a victory that can proclaim Utah State's return to football legitimacy.

"At some point, we have to win one of these games," Andersen said. "This is a great opportunity for us to compete with a quality program from a big time conference, and it's a chance to take advantage of that."

What makes this a little more intriguing is the fact that Texas A&M is a young team with a lot of talent, but not a lot of experience.

Both teams are coming off bye weeks, and both teams are looking towards conference play as a chance to prove themselves.

"If we're going to win, we have to be ready to play 100 percent, mentally and physically," Utah State's Jacob Atkinson said. "We're confident that we can go down there and prove ourselves against a team from one of the best conferences in the country."
