Emily Blunt confirms her reputation as one of cinema's anointed few in The Young Victoria, a sumptuous costume drama that explores the dour monarch's vivacious early years.
But the 26-year-old, who now has a flourishing career on both sides of the Atlantic, is taking neither her reign nor her loyal subjects for granted.
For someone so universally feted, Blunt shows little sense of entitlement.
Currently in New York rehearsing for her role opposite Matt Damon in The Adjustment Bureau, the British actor says she's "embarrassed" by references to her scene-stealing performances in films such as The Devil Wears Prada, in which she went head to head with Meryl Streep and her friend Anne Hathaway.
"It makes me sound as though I am purposefully trying to sabotage the scene from someone else," Blunt says. "That's never how I like to approach anything. You should always try to play for the movie rather than play for a scene."
