Mhsaa Football Playoffs


The 256-team field for the Michigan High School Athletic Association football playoffs will be unveiled on Sunday.

The field will be announced on Fox Sports Detroit at 6:30 p.m. (replayed at 10 p.m.), and the field will be unveiled on the MHSAA Web site at appoximately 7 p.m.

All teams with six victories will be in the field (five wins needed if playing an eight-game season). The remainder of the field will be made up of teams with 5-4 records (or 4-4 if playing an eight-game season) securing the highest playoff points per the MHSAA formula that rewards teams for playing larger schools and rewards teams for playing teams with winning records.

Teams with 5-4 records will be taken as needed to reach the 256-team limit. The 5-4 teams will be selected by enrollment classification. One team from Class A will be added, followed by one B, one C, one D and back to A, etc., until the field is full.

Home games for the first three rounds of the tournament will be determined by playoff points.

The tournament begins with first-round games on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
