Tracking Brett Favre vs. the Packers

After 16 years with Green Bay and one unsatisfying one with the Jets, Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is playing the Packers for the first time tonight. The Fifth Down will be watching, and we’d love to hear from you.
Update 11:09 p.m. The Packers just ran one of those direct-snap plays where the quarterback pretends to walk away signaling to someone and they snap it behind him. Memo to N.F.L. coaches: Just because it worked in your son’s middle school game doesn’t mean it’s going to fool an N.F.L. linebacker.
The play gains six yards on third and 7. Serves the Packers right.
Update 11:07 p.m. After carries on the Vikings’ first four plays of the game, Adrian Peterson has given Favre the spotlight all the himself. Peterson has 57 yards on 20 carries, but he gained nearly half of them on Minnesota’s first drive. Look for him to get over 100 in garbage time, though, as Minnesota salts this one away on the ground.
Update 11:01 p.m. The Packers are covering the Vikings receivers like they have swine flu. They do understand Favre has done this before, right? That he can tell when people are open?
Update 10:49 p.m. As if the night couldn’t get worse for the Packers or their fans, Green Bay fails to score on three straight plays from the 1 and gives the ball up on downs. Can’t blame Rodgers, though; his last pass hit Donald Lee in the hands on fourth down, and Lee dropped it. read more
