Premier League leaders Chelsea host Manchester United this afternoon (16:00 GMT) in perhaps the biggest game of the season so far.
Matches between the Blues and the Red Devils have taken on increasing significance in recent years with both sides practically monopolizing the EPL title since Arsenal won the trophy in 2004.
Though United with their three successive titles have had the better of things of late, Chelsea have begun this season the stronger.
“It’s a very important game, Carlo Ancelotti told ESPN in a recent interview. “It’s important because we play against a fantastic team, but we know very well that it will be a very difficult match but also a very interesting one.”
The West Londoners are undefeated at Stamford Bridge this term, and have picked the ball out of their own net on just one instance. They have scored 15 goals from their five games at home and ten in their last three.
In contrast, United have dropped to third spot after Arsenal’s win yesterday, and they face the prospect of going five points behind their opponents.
They boys from Old Trafford have only won two of their last eight matches against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. But before anyone goes against them, it is worth remembering that they have a habit of performing to their best when under pressure.
The Blues are certainly ripe for this clash. They’ve got Didier Drogba who is in the form of his life…full of confidence. Frank Lampard is also back in shape. The only problem is their defense, which looks a bit shaky and unconvincing at times.
Jose Bosingwa is the only player missing for Ancelotti’s side as he is still out with a knee problem. Nemanja Vidic is back for United following a calf injury, while Rio Ferdinand and Park Ji-sung are both on the sidelines.
