The director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where Michelle Duggar gave birth to her 19th child via emergency c-section this week, says that the baby’s premature delivery was due to pre-eclampsia.Pre-eclampsia is a condition that affects 5 to 8 percent of expectant moms, causing hypertension in pregnancy. Doctors at the hospital detected the problem when Michelle was admitted complaining of pain related to gallstones.
“The obstetrical and neonatal teams reached the collaborative decision [Thursday] that Mrs. Duggar needed an emergency C-section to ensure the blood pressure problem would not be detrimental to her or the baby,” Dr. Wendell reports.
Josie Duggar, the 19th baby for Michelle, 43, and her husband Jim-Bob, 44, was born on Thursday evening weighing 1lb 6oz. It’s being reported that Michelle was 25 weeks along.
Josie is said to be in stable condition in the NICU; our thoughts are with her and the entire Duggar family.
