Detectives nab two in more than 50 car burglaries in Alabaster, Helena

Detectives from the Alabaster and Helena police departments made two arrests connected to more than 50 car burglaries in the two cities.

Brian Lee Taylor, 18, and a 14-year-old, both of Alabaster, have been arrested in connection with the burglaries.

Taylor is being held in the Shelby County Jail and the 14-year-old is in the Shelby County Juvenile Detention Center.

"This investigation has also led to closure of other cases in Hoover, Pelham and Trussville," said Dep. Chief Curtis Rigney of the Alabaster Police Department.

Rigney said he anticipated more arrests.

Helena Police Capt. Tim Carter said about $30,000 in stolen property has been recovered.

"Basically, they were taking anything that wasn't glued to the seat," Carter said.

The suspects took firearms, video games and global positioning devices from the cars, Carter said.

Carter said a majority of the stolen property was taken from cars left unlocked in owners' driveways.
