Alleged U.S. drone kills three


ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- An apparent drone attack killed three people in northern Pakistan's tribal region, a Pakistani intelligence source said.

The drone missile targeted a home late Thursday in Danday Darpa Khel, a small village near Miranshah, North Waziristan, said the source, who asked not to be identified.

The United States is the only country in the region known to have the ability to launch missiles from drones, which are controlled remotely. The U.S. normally does not comment on suspected drone strikes, which have caused tension between Pakistan and the United States in the past.

Pakistani and U.S. officials think a drone attack killed the leader of the Pakistani Taliban, Baitullah Mehsud, last month in Waziristan. A new leader was named afterward.read more
