COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina has suspended running back Jarvis Giles for the Gamecocks’ game at No. 2 Alabama. Offensive line starter Heath Batchelor also won’t make the trip.
South Carolina athletic spokesman Steve Fink said on Friday that Giles violated team and university policy. The freshman was the 22nd-ranked Gamecocks’ second-leading rusher this season with 245 yards.
Fink said he did not know if Giles’ suspension would extend past the game at Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
Multiple media outlets have reported that Batchelor left the team this week. Fink would not comment on the reports.
Second-team receiver Dion Lecorn and backup defensive end Byron McKnight will miss the game with injuries.
