New Michael Jackson Song

Michael Jackson’s first posthumous single was released today, almost four months after the star died from an overdose of anaesthetic.

This Is It was to have been the title of Jackson’s 50-concert comeback in London, which would have kicked off in the summer had he not died on 25 June at his Hollywood home.

The song begins with orchestral strings as Jackson sings: “This is it, here I stand, I’m the light of the world, I feel grand.”

Jackson spends the next three minutes talking about love.

“I never heard a single word about you/Falling in love wasn’t my plan/I never thought that I would be your lover/Come on, please, just understand,” runs the chorus. Jackson’s brothers provide backing vocals.

The lyrics are unlikely to provide clues as to the singer’s romantic life in the months before he died: they were written almost 20 years ago, according to the Mirror, which reports that the song was originally recorded for Jackson’s 1991 album, Dangerous, but never made the final cut.

This Is It will be the only original track on a double CD to be released on 27 October. It will be played during the closing sequence of the upcoming film, Michael Jackson’s This Is It, which documents rehearsals for the ill-fated London shows.

The Los Angeles coroner disclosed in August that Propofol and the sedative Lorazepam were the “primary drugs responsible for Mr Jackson’s death”.

The drugs were administered by Jackson’s physician, Dr Conrad Murray, and the verdict has been considered likely to increase the chances of criminal charges being brought against the singer’s doctors.
