Vaibhavi Merchant turns director
The ace choreographer is all set to remake Vashu Bhagnani’s 2001 film, Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein. The film starred Dia Mirza, R Madhavan and Saif Ali Khan. The remake will be Jackky Bhagnani’s re-launch vehicle and Riteish Deshmukh will fill in Saif’s shoes in the film.
Why make a re-make in the first place? The question completely befuddles us, but who is to say? She is a noted dance director and she could have started with a musical, (which is a cliched idea) but she chose a re-make (even more cliched).
A source tells us, “It is a tad too early to remake RHTDM, which itself was a remake of a South Indian film. The heroine has not been decided as yet, but they won’t take someone who is established, because the limelight has to be on Jackky. The heroine could be a newbie.”
“Vashu Bhagnani is rather disappointed after the failure of Do Knot Disturb and Kal Kissne Dekha. The highlight of this film will be its lavish dance sequences and chart-busting music. It is difficult to match up to the success of the song Zara zara, but the makers will go all out. The film will be a romantic comedy. Vashu has already spoken to Vaibhavi and they will start the project soon.”
Vaibhavi last choreographed Dil Bole Hadippa and is currently busy with her tour, The Merchants of Bollywood. She was unavailable for comment.
Farah Khan, with two back-to-back successes like Om Shanti Om and Main Hoon Na is the only successful choreographer turned director. Happy New Year is her next film. Ahmed Khan’s Lakeer was unsuccessful and Paathshala is his next film. Vaibhavi is an excellent choreographer and it would be interesting to see how she handles direction. We tried to get in touch with her for her take, she was unavailable.
