ISSUES:Scores die in El Salvador floods

At least 91 people have been killed in El Salvador by flooding following days of heavy rain, the government says.

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in five regions, Interior Minister Humberto Centeno said.

Mr Centeno said the capital San Salvador and central San Vicente province were the hardest-hit regions.

Journalist Juan Carlos Barahona told the BBC that San Vicente had almost been completely cut off by landslides and collapsed bridges.

Mr Barahona, of the El Salvador daily La Prensa Grafica, told the BBC that the other worst affected areas were La Libertad, La Paz and Cuscatlan.

Mr Centeno said 60 people were still missing, and about 7,000 more were in shelters.

"We have, unfortunately, 91 fatalities," he said, raising the death toll from 50 earlier in the day.

Hurricane Ida

In the town of San Vicente rescue workers pulled bodies from the wreckage of houses.

"We rescued a man this morning who had fractures, and a little girl," resident Cristian Aguilar told Reuters news agency.

"My son and I crossed through the floodwater and brought them here, and now she is with her parents."

News of the deaths came as Hurricane Ida, which has now strengthened to a category two storm, was poised to enter the Gulf of Mexico.

However, Ida, which passed to the east of El Salvador three days ago, is not thought to have caused the severe rains.

The BBC's weather centre said El Salvador's rains were caused by a separate, low pressure system.

Meanwhile, a hurricane watch has been issued for coastal Louisiana and Mississippi by US forecasters.

It is estimated that Ida could reach the United State's northern Gulf Coast by Tuesday, but forecasters have not included New Orleans in the watch.

In forecasting terms, a watch means hurricane conditions are possible within 36 hours. A hurricane warning remains in force for parts of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Ida was declared a hurricane on Thursday while it was off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, before it weakened.

ISSUES:Time to leave Afghanistan

Two weeks ago, eight more American soldiers were killed in Afghanistan. In this same province in 2008, nine soldiers were killed.

Between the Taliban and al-Qaida, it seems that the hit-and-run tactics resemble those in the Vietnam War. These people fear no loss of a life and are not afraid of blowing themselves up and killing as many of our troops as possible. We still have not even caught one man, Osama bin Laden, after eight years of fighting. How will it help to send more troops?

If we worry about terrorism, we should pull our troops back here, surround our borders with the same security and use our resources better, instead of wasting taxpayers' money. Huge profits are being made by big contractors - but are more than 4,000 soldiers and thousands more of others worth it? Baghdad has so many bombings every day, many have left there. Afghanistan's not much better.

We have to get politics out of this war and really ask ourselves how much longer. We don't need another Bush or Cheney dictating war policies.

Gretchen Real Housewives of Orange County

The Real Housewives of Orange returned to the airwaves tonight with Vicki, Lynne, Gretchen, Tamra, and Jeana.

On the first episode, Vicki went skydiving with her kids. She sported heels to the jump site and started talking about life insurance. Vicki got to check it off her bucket list, but she said she'll never do it again. In other Vicki news, she and Don are working on their marriage. Last season, Vicki's love tank was empty, but now they're both working on their love tanks and just trying to mellow out.

Vicki is still great friends with Tamra, but they haven't been spending as much time together. Vicki thinks it's because Tamra's husband, Simon, is so controlling. Tamra said her marriage is under a lot of stress these days. They're having some money troubles.

Jeana is also experiencing money troubles. She asked her son to help her budget her money and he said she doesn't listen. As a result of the money troubles, Jeana had to put her house on the market. She's not sure if it will sell, but she has to try. Times must really be hard because Jeana apparently called Vicki to borrow money. Vicki declined and said she hasn't heard from Jeana since then.
Jeana said she thought Vicki was her friend, but when times are hard you find out who your real friends are.

Lynne wanted to bring the girls together as friends. With her jewelry line taking off she decided to have a party and invited all of the housewives. There was drama between Gretchen and Tamra at the party.
They started arguing across the dinner table calling each other "hooker" and "whore". Tamra brought up all the scandal from Gretchen's past referencing scandalous nudie pictures and accusing Gretchen of preying on old men. Am I the only person that thinks this entire feud is based on petty jealous? I mean why does Tamra care what Gretchen's doing? If you ask me they're both playing the victim with the you said this about me and you said that about me. Gretchen told Tamra to shut the F up! This dinner party is to be continued . . .

Exile On Main Street

Exile On Main Street:We’ve been following the list of possible albums for Phish’s traditional Halloween “musical costume” as their cover art was regularly maimed by drawings of arrows, axes, and knives on a teaser site, but the day has finally come and we now have the last record standing: the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street.
Jamband.com reports that Phish have given Radiohead’s Kid A, MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular, and many more albums the axe, opting instead for the 70s Stones classic. Exile’s “Loving Cup” has actually been performed live by Phish for many years, but there are other songs on Exile with parts for a horn section that may stretch the 4-piece band thin.
Enter Sharon Jones (vocals), Dave Guy (trumpet), David Smith (trombone), Tony Jarvis (sax), and Saundra Williams (vocals). A program handed out to festival-goers this afternoon said that Sharon Jones (of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, of course) will join Phish and the above backing band for the Exile on Main Street set.

Can’t wait for the bootlegs to hit the web, but in the meantime, you can check out the original album here or watch Phish cover “Loving Cup”

Daylight Savings 2009 Fall

When is Daylight Savings Time 2009 Fall Back? It’s not today. Daylight Savings Time 2009 Fall Back use to be the last Sunday of October.

The net awoke Sunday with a mass of confusion (that was building up the last 72 hours) with many thinking they forgot to set their clocks back. No worries – it’s not until next week. Time to hit the snooze and roll over.

Two years ago, Daylight Savings Time 2009 Fall Back was switched from the last Sunday of October to the first Sunday of November. For 2009, that falls November 1, 2009.

So before you put your Kate Gosselin wig on, or grab hold of your fake Balloon boy costume, remember November 1 to set your clock back.

The next time you change your clocks is March 14 2010 – the second Sunday in March. And if you are wondering,

Essex County Hospital

The state-of-the-art Essex County Hospital Center was completed in December 2006 and welcomed its first patients in February 2007. It has established a clear mission to provide evidence-based care to promote patient recovery and return to community living. The Hospital Center has a well-organized discharge-planning process that ensures all discharges are appropriate and timely. The new facility is designed to support and facilitate Information Technology projects to benefit consumers and the providers. Because the Hospital Center is the receiving hospital for all short-term psychiatric facilities in Essex County, and is the site for community mental health groups, such as the Mental Health Advisory Board, PAC and NAMI, it is well suited to organize a local integrated system of care.

In October 2006, the Institute for Mental Health Policy, Research and Treatment, a new academic division of the Essex County Hospital Center and the first of its kind in New Jersey, was established.

Through the Institute, Essex County and its Hospital Center have established clinical-academic partnerships with various medical schools and related institutions. The Institute has the potential to improve the quality and effectiveness of mental health services to meet patients’ needs by bridging the gap between research and treatment, and to help policy makers reach decisions about funding based on evidence. It is divided into six centers of excellence that specialize in the following areas: The Center for Mood Disorders, the Center for Schizophrenia and Psychotic Disorders, the Center for Metabolic Disorders, the Center for Workforce Development, the Center for Mental Health Policy, and the Center for Technology Integration.

Women 'Pickier Than Men' About One-Night Stands

Women are far more choosy about casual sex than men, who don't specially care whether a woman is moderately or exceptionally attractive as long as she hops into bed, new research says. But German men are pickier than Americans and Italians -- in that order -- about who they spend a night in bed with, according to psychological research from Britain's Brunel University published in the journal Human Nature.

In the study, Achim Schutzwohl and his colleagues asked more than 400 male and 400 female students in the US, Germany and Italy to judge the role played by physical attractiveness in their willingness to go out with someone, go to their flat, or go to bed with them.

The imaginary members of the opposite sex asking for favours were ranked either "slightly unattractive", "moderately attractive" or "exceptionally attractive".

"Looks affected men and women differently," the research team said.

For all three offers, men were more likely to accept when the woman was moderately or exceptionally attractive, but it made no difference whether she was little or very appealing.

Women on the other hand were more likely to go to a man's flat or agree to go to bed if he was exceptionally attractive.

"While men are not entirely insensitive to their requestor's attractiveness, women have higher standards," the authors concluded.

Hottest Models Of All Time

Here at Pop Crunch we absolutely love models.

With all of our hearts.

To illustrate that fact, we’ve previously put together lists of the 50 Hottest SI Swimsuit Models of All Time, as well as our extremely popular 50 Hottest Victoria’s Secret Models of All Time.

Those lists were two of the most fun to put together out of all the lists we’ve ever done here at Pop Crunch, but they were definitely missing some big names.

You see, there’s many different categories of models.

There’s the lingerie model and swimsuit model, both of which we’ve already covered, but there’s also the pure runway model, as well as the Glamour model (think the kind of girl that would appear on Page 3 of The Sun).

So we’ve decided to mix them all up, and make an ultimate list of the 50 Hottest Models of All Time.

You’ll definitely see some overlap with our other two lists, but trust me when I say there are plenty of hot models that don’t work for SI or Victoria’s Secret. Enjoy!

Hrithik is only shooting Guzaarish currently and Priyanka will start Anjana-Anjani next month. Priyanka has shot her segment of the video and Hrithik will 2-3 days to complete his segment, with the perfectionist that he is. He will sport a beard in the video while Priyanka will have a funky look, especially with her blue streaks.’

Our source continues, ‘Hrithik and Priyanka are very sweet people who always support their friends, no matter what.

This is their first Indi-pop video and the superstars haven’t charged a penny for it becauseGanesh is their friend and they have worked with him several times.

Unlike Krrish, this time nobody will complain about Priyanka’s look as she has evolved and been styled very well.

Needless to say, both Hrithik and Priyanka are natural dancers. ’

Priyanka Chopra confirmed she was part of the video and that she was thrilled about it. Ganesh’s spokesperson said that an official announcement for the video would be made later on when everything was finalized.

Some of the popular songs thatGanesh has choreographed include It’s Magic from Koi Mil Gaya and Main Hoon Don from Don.

Rs 1 lakh for Salman’s towel

Imagine shelling out Rs.100,000 for a used towel! A lot of people might, if the towel belonged to a celebrity. From clothes to cricket bats – Indians are fast opening up to the idea of bidding for celebrity memorabilia online.

“People have started buying such merchandise nowadays. And there are various reasons to it – some buy them for the resale value of an item, some go for it because they are a fan of the celebrity or some just want to give for charity,” Deepa Thomas, senior manager (Pop Culture) at eBay, told IANS.

Thomas says the craze among people for celebrity memorabilia started around 2005. A Salman fan paid as much as Rs.100,000 for his used towel.

Thomas says her company decided to cash in on the demand in 2005 only and the trend is now scaling high.

“The money people are ready to shell out for such memorabilia’s depends on how rare the item is and also on the brand power of the celebrity. Between 2005 -2008, ebay has earned Rs.1.8 crore through sale of personalised celebrity auctions and we gave the money for charity,” added Thomas.

Kolkata-based Riddhi Nair decided to bid for Olympic gold-medalist Vijender Singh’s boxing gloves auctioned on choreographer-director Farah Khan’s chat show “Tere Mere Beach Mein” because she was moved by the way his mother brought him up.

She spent Rs.17,800 for the item and says she will treasure it like “heirloom” forever.

“I happened to see the repeat telecast of ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’ where Vijender’s mother spoke about how she never bought a new sari for herself for a long time so that she doesn’t have to compromise on her son’s training. It left me very emotional.

“I was touched to see his rising – from a remote village to being a world champion. It’s very thought provoking. It is the perfect example for my daughter that she must always do something big in life,” said Nair, a 33-year-old housewife.

Another motivation for Nair to bid was that the money will be transferred to Mumbai-based NGO Sneha, which works towards quality nutrition, education and health care of women and children.

Nitin Jain, a 39-year-old investor, bid for Priyanka Chopra’s autographed Gavin Maguel designer dress auctioned on Farah’s show. He paid Rs.50,000 for the outfit.

Jain says he often bids for items if the proceeds go for charity, but also had a special eye on Priyanka’s dress as his 15-year-old daughter is a hugefan of the actress.

“Recently, there were several items that were auctioned on ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’ – the chat show on STAR Plus. We had bid for many of them and were, in fact, the second highest bidders for Bipasha Basu’s shoes. But my daughter is a Priyanka Choprafan – so she also wanted it,” said Jain, who is based in New Delhi.

Other items sold through the show include Shahid Kapoor’s cap for Rs.28,500, Kareena Kapoor’s blue dress for Rs.22,300, Yusuf Khan’s cricket bat for Rs.60,750, et al.

Selling celebrity memorabilia also makes business sense for celebrities themselves at times, says small screen actor Sachin Sharma, who launched a web portal called sbuy two months ago. TV and movie stars can auction their items through the site.

“There are many celebrities in India who don’t get their due. And when they land in tough times and need money, they can turn to such auctions. I had a friend from the industry who wanted to sell his car but wasn’t getting the right price from the dealer. But he struck a much better deal with afan,” said Sharma, who was seen in “Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii”.

Sharma’s website has already had 300,000 hits in two months, he claims it is evidence to the demand of such items nowadays.

Katrina Kaif:Fan Of Kareena

Katrina Kaif is going ga ga over Kareena and their bond. Recently giving an interview to a news channel Kat was excited to talk about her friend. Not many people know that both the vivacious actress shares the same manager too.

“She is very nice girl and I like her as well as her work. We even shares one manager and I am a big fan of her,” says Katrina.

There had been news in the industry about their cold war but with this statement of Kat, she is putting it all the rumours at rest.Kareena Kapoor was the unchallenged queen of B-Town at as far as her price was concerned. But Katrina Kaif started competing with her at every turn: with the price, the number of film, as well as endorsements.

“Whenever we meet each other she talks with me very nicely and I too love her company. I really do admire her as one of the great actress in the industry,” she states in the interview to the entertainment channel.

Looking at this statement it seems the cold war between the two actresses has ended. All’s well that end’s well is what we can say in this case.

Ledisi

Artist: Ledisi
Title: Turn Me Loose
Label: Verve Forecast
Genre: Soul

Ledisi finally entered the mainstream consciousness with her 2007 Grammy nominated album Lost & Found, which was undoubtedly a soul masterpiece. She follows up that breakthrough performance with Turn Me Loose, an album that finds her channeling her inner Tina Turner and working with an assortment of top producers that includes Raphael Saadiq and Carl “Chucky” Thompson. While Turn Me Loose may not feel like the revelation that Lost & Found was, it is still an exemplary album that shines with excellent vocals, thoughtful songwriting and crisp production.

When talking about Ledisi her exceptional vocal ability needs to come first. A truly powerful instrument, Ledisi’s voice is a star unto itself making the best songs soar while uplifting the forgettable ones. The vibe of the album is very different from that of Lost & Found, finding inspiration in blues and rock & roll. The aggressive flavor of the productions compliment Ledisi’s strong voice quite well. She belts it out right in sync with the blaring horns and banging drums on the freedom anthem “Turn Me Loose” and the funky “Knockin”. The albums works best when opting for sexy retro-soul grooves such as the Raphael Saadiq assisted “Love Never Changes” and “Please Stay.” Although the retro vibe is losing steam, these two tracks sound fresh in Ledisi’s capable arms. But when the singer adds her incredible voice to some more contemporary productions the results are breathtaking. Just listen to “I Need Love”, a pop-hit-in-waiting that sizzles with electro pop energy or the sassy “Trippin” with its reggae groove and kiss-off lyrics. There are some tracks that veer a bit too far in the cheesy pop territory but for the most part Turn Me Loose is a strong follow-up and one that will no doubt win Ledisi a legion of new fans.
